An Amarcord and a piadina passing under the Arch of Augustus: when Erasmus+ in Rimini turns into a movie

According to popular opinion, the city of Rimini evokes many things: sea and sun, fun, sport, food and culture, the ideal destination for summer holidays; it’s famous throughout the world and a symbol of holidays and entertainment, but also the birthplace of Federico Fellini, a world-famous director, who shot two of his most famous films right here: I vitelloni and Amarcord.

And then the food and wine: the famous piadina, a simple focaccia with savoury fillings, excellent both warm and cold, cassoni or crescioni, very similar to piadina but folded and closed with both sweet and salty filling, the typical squacquerone cheese with its creamy texture , the cappelletti stuffed with meat and cooked in broth and the tagliatelle with meat sauce, the many wines, including above all the Sangiovese typical of the Rimini hinterland. Not to mention the many events hosted by the Rimini Fair, a very modern structure of about 189,000 square meters, with 24 conference rooms and 11,000 parking spaces, where you can visit the most varied and particular exhibitions and high-level fairs at different times of the year. not only national but also international in many sectors: from the Festival on digital and social innovation to the International Tourism Fair, from Italian table tennis championships to fairs on sustainable development and renewable energy.

But let’s start from the beginning, where it all started: the ancient name of Rimini is Ariminum and to discover its origins we must go back in time to get to 268 BC, the year in which the Senate of Rome gave a first urban structure to the city, officially decreeing its constitution as a strategic colony due to its geographical position, being both a military garrison on the Po valley and an important commercial hub and place of trade. In fact it was a crossroads of communication routes between north and south Italy as it was crossed by two important roads that met in this city: the via Emilia that went towards Milan and the via Flaminia that went towards Rome.

Rimini experienced its heyday under the rule of the Romans thanks to the Emperor Augustus, in whose period of government there was a strong territorial expansion, an economic reorganization and monuments of great importance and beauty were built.

Thus began the story of this city full of charm and very important historical and architectural testimonies, including the Surgeon’s House, the Tiberius Bridge and the Arch of Augustus, which still today constitute precious traces capable of creating evocative atmospheres and making us travel through time.

Rimini is actually a place to find all of this and where is located our agency Sistema Turismo, which every day welcomes hundreds of students and teachers from all over Europe who come to Rimini to live a high-level experience thanks to its staff who daily deal with dedication and commitment to manage and implement Erasmus training and mobility projects.
