P.IR.A.M.iD: the project for the development of intercultural skills in the tourism sector

The P.IR.A.M.iD. project (Path for Intercultural Awareness, Measurement and Development) was promoted thanks to the ErasmusPlus programme with the aim of structuring and developing the intercultural skills of students and teachers in Vocational Education and Training (VET) in the tourism sector. This ambitious project brings together several European partners to carry out training activities and transnational mobility, aimed at improving the management of multicultural environments in the tourism sector.

The project aims to improve the internationalisation process of tourism schools and businesses, while raising awareness of the importance of intercultural skills. It plans to provide practical tools and effective methods for better managing multicultural environments. In addition, it promotes inclusive and caring intercultural contexts and improves intercultural dialogue skills. Strengthening intercultural, linguistic and social skills through the project’s activities is another key objective, as is experimenting with new methodologies and tools for acquiring skills and improving pedagogical practices.

The P.IR.A.M.iD. project also aims to increase the recognition and practice of intercultural skills among teachers, enabling replication in their institutions. It will enable the tourism companies involved to disseminate the results of the project internally and to promote intercultural skills externally, to customers and suppliers, with awareness and conviction. Improved cooperation between the target groups and partners from different countries will also be a priority, strengthening the European dimension in order to train responsible European citizens.

The expected results of the project include an initial survey to define the implementation of the model, the development of a validated intercultural index to measure competences, the creation of P.IR.A.M.iD. training courses for students, VET teachers and host company tutors, and the organisation of training mobility for VET students and teachers.

This project, run in partnership with Tribeka (Spain) as coordinator, Elidea Psicologi Associati (Italy), garagErasmus (Italy), the Bulgarian Industrial Association (Bulgaria) and Arlab (Italy), represents a unique opportunity for players in the tourism sector to equip themselves with the skills needed to navigate in complex multicultural environments, while strengthening European cooperation and preparing tomorrow’s citizens to become responsible players within the European Union.
